"Together we may find some of what we're looking for--laughter, beauty, love, and a chance to create."
Saul Alinsky

In January of 2000 I visited the Rio Grande Valley for the first time to conduct a series of interviews with the leaders of Valley Interfaith, an Industrial Areas Foundation organization. In the course of these two weeks, I listened two twenty-five people tell me about their anger, their faith, and their commitment to bringing about changes in their community.

I remember sitting at the dining room table and watching Nidia as she spoke. . as she banged on her dining room table repeatedly, as she made waving gestures with her arms, as she paused dramatically between points.

I kept looking back and forth from her to the small tape recorder, wondering how the passion of this interview would ever make it to an audio tape.
